This April, we are launching #UnlockFreedom, a fundraising challenge to shine a light on the barriers faced by prisoners of conscience and human rights defenders worldwide.
Can you imagine being silenced for speaking your mind? Being cut off from the world because access to information is restricted? Having to flee your home just to stay safe?
For millions around the world, the freedoms many of us take for granted are dangerous acts that come with severe consequences.
By taking on a personal challenge – whether it’s staying silent for 24 hours or giving up your daily news scroll – you will help bring attention to the harsh realities faced by those fighting for their most basic rights.

And the best part…if you raise over £100 or get 3 others to sign up to fundraise with you, you will get your choice of a free PoC t-shirt or tote bag!
What sort of thing could I do to raise money?
Take a look at some of last year’s participants – from Laura who read 5 books written by women of colour, to Emily who ran 100km:

How your fundraising supports prisoners of conscience
£50

£50 could cover one month’s rent for a journalist like Juliette (pictured above) living in exile.
£100

£100 could help to reunite children with their families in a safe country after standing up against human rights abuses.
£250

£250 could help cover shelter, food and emergency medical care for a prisoner of conscience who has been tortured and threatened by government forces.
